Arouca: Freita plateau and Paiva valley
Arouca brings together the Freita mountain plateau and the valley carved by the Paiva. Villages such as Paradinha and Meitriz stand beside the river, where geology is directly visible in the landscape.

The plateau contains several geological sites and differs from the slopes and valleys descending towards other parts of the municipality.
Paiva settlements
Paradinha and Meitriz retain the relationship between settlement and river, revealing the human dimension of this river valley.
