Braga
Braga: historic centre and sanctuary hillsides
In Braga, the historic centre is arranged around the cathedral, while Bom Jesus and Sameiro mark elevated sites on the outskirts. This transition from the city to wooded hillsides is a defining local feature, alongside buildings that bring together different periods of construction.
The cathedral quarter
The cathedral combines Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque elements. The surrounding streets and buildings of the historic centre show how different periods of the city overlap.
Bom Jesus and Sameiro
Both sanctuaries stand on elevated sites overlooking the city. At Bom Jesus, the monumental staircase and green surroundings make the shape of the hillside especially apparent.
