Chaves
Chaves: the Tâmega and a thermal-water city
In Chaves, the Tâmega runs between the historic centre and the Madalena quarter. The Roman bridge and thermal baths provide two central reference points for the city: crossing the river and the presence of hot spring water known since Roman times.
Two urban riverbanks
The Roman bridge links the historic core with Madalena. Beside the river, the Tabolado spaces and Jardim Público reveal the continuity of the urban waterfront.
The legacy of the baths
The Roman baths complex stands beside the Tâmega. This heritage, associated with ancient Aquae Flaviae, makes the historic relationship between thermal water and the city visible.
