Coimbra
Coimbra: the Alta hill and the Mondego
Coimbra’s historic centre is arranged between the Alta, on the hill above the Mondego, and the Baixa near the river. The university marks the upper city. Along the banks, Parque Verde and the Santa Clara area add other settings to the wider urban landscape.
Alta and Baixa
The contrast between the university hill and the Baixa is visible in the street pattern. Rua Ferreira Borges connects Largo da Portagem with Rua Visconde da Luz.
Both banks of the Mondego
The river provides a continuous reference between the riverside green spaces and Santa Clara. Bridges connect these places with the historic centre on the opposite bank.
