Elvas
Elvas: a fortified city among hills
In Elvas, the terrain directly shapes the organisation of the city and its defences.
Defences shaped by the terrain
The forts of Graça and Santa Luzia occupy hills outside the centre. Their positions reveal the relationship between the city, its surrounding horizon and defence.
