Vila Nova de Gaia: from the Douro to the Atlantic coast
Vila Nova de Gaia combines a Douro riverfront marked by Port wine lodges with a strong Atlantic presence. Between the quay and Serra do Pilar, the terrain reveals changes in level; at Miramar, the landscape opens onto a sandy shore.
Quays and hillside wine lodges
The wine lodges occupy the historic area beside the Douro and hillside positions. Serra do Pilar forms an elevated landmark above the river and Porto.
The Miramar coastline
The Senhor da Pedra chapel marks Miramar's seafront. Sandy beaches and coastal boardwalks give the municipality a landscape distinct from that of its riverbank.
