Vendas Novas: a road, a palace and railway heritage
Vendas Novas developed along the road now known as the EN4. Palácio das Passagens, the establishment of the artillery school and the arrival of the railway shaped its growth. This history helps explain the presence of substantial institutional buildings within the city's urban fabric.

The palace and royal chapel form a landmark on Avenida da República, connecting memories of royal journeys with the town's subsequent military presence.

At the palace's eastern end, the chapel has a single nave, a royal oratory and blue and white tile panels within its palatial interior.
