Faro
Faro: old town and lagoon landscape
Faro’s Vila-Adentro is a walled historic core close to the channels and islands of the Ria Formosa. The lagoon gives this urban waterfront a different setting from a town facing the open sea. Inland, Estoi adds its palace complex to the municipality’s built heritage.

The Ria Formosa brings together channels, salt marshes, islands and sandbanks. This mosaic of water and land shapes the coastal surroundings of the city of Faro.
Vila-Adentro and Estoi
The walls and cathedral define the historic core of Vila-Adentro. In Estoi, the palace provides another architectural landmark, away from the city’s lagoon waterfront.
