Grândola
Grândola: hills, plain and coast
Grândola combines three distinct landscapes: hills, a plain and the Atlantic coastal strip. The Sado forms part of the municipality’s northern boundary, while the Lagoa de Melides adds a lagoon landscape to the coast. Inland, Santa Margarida da Serra represents the hillside settlements.
Hills and oak woodland
The Grândola hills are characterised by schist terrain and cork and holm oak woodland. On the plain, sandy and clay soils accompany a stronger presence of pines.
From the Sado to Melides
The Atlantic frontage and Lagoa de Melides contrast with the inland hills. To the north and northwest, the Sado separates this territory from Setúbal municipality.
