Vila Real de Santo António: a planned grid beside the Guadiana
Vila Real de Santo António is distinguished by its regular street grid on flat ground beside the Guadiana. Praça Marquês de Pombal anchors the historic centre. Within the same municipality, Cacela Velha has a different scale and layout, on raised ground overlooking Ria Formosa.
