Cartaxo
Cartaxo: vineyards, town and the Tejo riverside
Cartaxo brings together a town shaped by wine production and settlements on the Tejo riverside plain. Around Valada, Porto de Muge and Palhota, the relationship with the water and the agricultural floodplain gives the landscape a different character from the urban centre.
Valada and the floodplain
Valada lies on the Tejo plain. Porto de Muge, Reguengo and Palhota belong to this parish, where settlements, agricultural fields and river sit closely together.
Wine and fishing village houses
The Rural and Wine Museum reflects the local winemaking tradition. In Palhota, timber houses raised on posts preserve a distinctive form of avieiro fishing village housing.
